CLUB NEWS

The Annual Winter Supper 2010. was held on Saturday 5th March. I am sure everyone who attended had a really good evening. The roast dinner was followed by a choice of sweets and there was plenty of fine wine. A big thank you to Pam, Jayne and Dave who prepared the excellent meal. Josh our competition organizer did a great job of presented the winners and runners up with their Trophies and Shields (cheeky so and so) well done Josh. There was no music which was great because it gave everyone the opportunity to have a chat during and after the meal. If you did not attend this year then make sure you don’t  miss out next year.

Visit by The Fort Mardyck Club 2010. On Saturday 5th June around 45 members of the Fort Mardyck team arrived for their annual visit to our club. The weather was superb and we played triples, Villager Petanque club against Fort Mardyck. I am not sure of the exact score, but as the Fort Mardyck team are unlike to see this news we can safely say we won. Anyway we all had a great time. The catering  side of the day was very well taken care of by Jayne, Pam and Dave. the Lunch and evening spread were excellent.

The Jackie Hill Memorial Cup 2010. Was held on Sunday 15th August. My personal and the clubs thanks to Josh, Jayne and Dani who did a great job organizing the event. Thanks also to Jayne, Dave and those that helped with the BBQ and all those who took part in the competition. The Plate winners were Jayne Rixon and Pam Bradley the runners up were Craig Brewer and Russell Brewis. The Cup winners were Andy Brewer and Mark Hopper the runners up were Fred and Rob Booth. In consultation with Joss it was decided to donate the £40 entry fees to Cancer Research.

The Villager Doubles Competition 2009. Was held on Sunday 6th September and was organized by Dani Howard. The BBQ was fire up and there was plenty of good food. Unfortunately Josh was not there to see fair play this resulted in Ken Hill and Joan Hutchings being robbed of the cup which was won instead by the second best team Dani and Lee Howard, Jim Keys and Mark Hooper were the runners up. The Plate final was between Kenny Whiltshire and Dan Hares who played Joan Hutchings and Ken Hill. Here I must own up and say that due to Joan’s rubbish playing Dan and Kenny won fair and square. No doubt something will be said about this robbery at The Club Presentation Dinner.

The Villager Singles Championship 2009. The knock stage of the Village Singles Competition took place on Friday 5th June with the semi finals and final on Friday 12th June. Although it as disappointing that only 15 members took part, the standard of play was excellent with plenty of close matches. Phil Rixon, Alan Holliday, Ryan Kelly and Tony Morez all got through to the Semi final stage. This resulted in a final between Ryan and Alan, Ryan was the eventual winner and is therefore the Villager Singles Champion 2009.
